Fall Pumpkins & Greenery Basket Decor

Fall Pumpkins & Greenery Basket Decor

Every year I try to do something a bit unique for our porch decor. I love getting creative with it and brainstorming ways to make it stand out. We don't have steps on our front porch which makes it a little tricky to get varying heights and good dimension. Last year, I used a stool to put some pumpkins on and create some differing height. This year, I wanted something with a slight modern twist.

I've always loved the look of modern painted pumpkins, but I also love the natural, colorful pumpkins. So why not mix them?! I gathered several white pumpkins and painted them with acrylic paint to create a modern look. I chose colors that would coordinate well with the natural colors of the other pumpkins. To add some height and texture, I got a basket and filled it with pumpkins and greenery. It has more of a traditional look but with the modern pumpkins mixed it, it adds a great trendy twist.

Below I've included all the materials I used as well as a step-by-step guide!

Materials:

  • White pumpkins for painting (I did a mix of real and fake white pumpkins)
  • Colorful real pumpkins for mixing in with the painted pumpkins
  • Floral Foam
  • Faux Greenery
  • Large basket
  • Paint
  • Painters tape

Step 1: Tape off your pumpkins with painters tape. I chose to put paint in kind of a diagonal around the pumpkin to create a modern look.

Step 2: Paint your pumpkins. I painted mine on one side of the diagonal so there was a fun burst of color. Let your pumpkins sit until they are completely dry.

Step 3: Place towels or a blanket at the bottom of your large basket to fill up some space and place the floral foam on top (I used about 4 pieces of floral foam.

Step 4: Begin placing some pumpkins on top of the foam. I chose a couple of large colorful ones to place on top. Then I took the greenery and started filling in some of the gaps. I made sure to poke the greenery through the foam to keep it nice and secure.

Step 5: Fill in any empty spaces with smaller pumpkins and more greenery. Then place a mix of painted and real pumpkins around the bottom of the basket so it's like they are all toppling out!

You can go so many different ways with this look. You can choose to paint pumpkins black and white for a spookier look, you can paint words on the pumpkins, the options really are endless and you can customize it any way you like.

Happy porch decorating, friends!
